Tamagotchi Virtual Pet 20th Anniversary Review

Not too long ago I went to my local Gamestop and found this for sale:

Remember this? A new version has been released by Bandai to let us indulge in some nostalgia.

Appearance and Basic Functions

There are a variety of colors to select. I always enjoyed the "retro" clear look, and it was also available in green as a bonus.

The display is always-on. I find this to be very cute and minimalist.

The left button is the most used one. It will clear away "dirt" to put it nicely and will activate the menu used to feed your little virtual pet. The center one is used to see the time. And the right button is used to discipline the pet.

Still Has Keychain Option

Yes, the Tamagotchi still has the option to attach it to a keychain or elsewhere. Personally, I attached it to my Vera Bradley Tablet Tamer Organizer next to a Neko Atsume plush. Since this Tamagotchi is very small, it is beneficial to be able to attach it to whatever you want.

No Mini-Games

As a note there are no mini-games to play with your virtual pet. This makes this version of Tamagotchi easier for busy people. The only interaction you have with this machine is to feed, clean, and discipline the pet.

Depending on what you want to get out of this machine, this is either a plus or a minus. On the bright side, the Tamagotchi is not very invasive in your lifestyle. It is easy to check every four hours or so and give it about five minutes of your time.

However, once that five minutes of interaction is done there is nothing left to do but walk away from this machine.

Final Thoughts

I have not gotten my pet to evolve yet, but if you played with Tamagotchis before, not much has changed here. It is a fantastic little machine that provides a nice burst of fun.

Thanks to Gamestop and Bandai for creating this nice little retro machine. I make no money off of these reviews. Feel free to leave comments, and thank you!
